Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Did you know that St. Patrick was the Patron Saint of Engineers?

He is credited with fostering the founding of arts and crafts in Ireland, which led to the use of limestone mortar. He is also known for building several churches on the isle of Ireland out of clay. All this led to the continued use of clay in crafts and buildings, ultimately leading to him being designated as the Patron Saint of Ceramic Engineers.

Okay. Why is this interesting to me? Many years ago, our small college town was transformed into a sea of Green for St. Patrick's Day weekend. Our University happened to have a College of Ceramic Engineering!

Our student body enthusiastically participated in and watched a parade, drank green beer, and dressed up for a St. Patrick's Day Formal. It was a weekend of fun and relaxation, during a typically cold and bleak month in the Northeast.

I fondly remember these times at college each year when St. Patrick's Day rolls around! Oh, to be young and crazy, again!

To celebrate, I am offering 17% off everything in my shop today that has the color GREEN incorporated into it. Just use the coupon code; GREEN17 at check out from my etsy shop.

Have a great weekend!

Continuing Positively!

Wow! Are we having some beautiful weather here in the mid-west!

A lot has happened since my last post, but to provide some continuity and updates, I have to tell you that I am still on the road of positivity! And I am happy to say that my entire family seems to be continuing with me down this path! Sure, we've had some slips; mostly a negative comment here or there, but my children have gotten so good at the positive outlook over the last two weeks, that immediately one of them steps in to say;
"Hey, Mom (or Dad), that wasn't a positive thing to say!"
Just like that, with a snap, I am brought back to the positive road!

I posted a Be Positive reminder on our refrigerator and there it stays!

I am trying hard to stay away from the negative thinkers I know. This is harder, as some are extended family members and/or close friends. But, I still realize that I am in control of my thoughts and am beginning to be able to brush off the thoughts of others that can be
sources of a festering negativity. Surrounding myself with positive, inspiring thinkers, has also been helpful in the relatively short period of time I've been focused on my attitude!

Things that have been inspiring my positivity are;

1) The SUN! Spring is here and the longer days are bright and filled with renewal.

2) Some "me" time. I realized that although I've never really thought of myself as a morning person, I enjoy being the first one up in our house (usually, around 6am). It is quiet. I can get my family's needs met before we all rush off in different directions, AND I spend a few minutes with my hot tea, enjoying a magazine or checking my e-mail. This small amount of time allows me to be okay with being pulled away from an activity to meet the needs of others, when I am called to do so (whether that be family, friends, or one of my many volunteer commitments).

3) Enjoying the little things in life. Both yesterday and today, I had to go shopping first thing in the morning to outfit my husband and teenager in new dress clothes (suits, ties, shoes, etc).
While this could have been a chore, I thoroughly enjoyed it!

And finally,
4) Occasionally, I'll look at a list of positive quotes that I printed off. I'd like to share one with you today;

"If we think happy thoughts, we will be happy. If we think miserable thoughts, we will be miserable"
----Dale Carnegie----

Please visit my Etsy shop, as I have a sale going on! Everything is 30% off if you use the coupon code; HUGESALE at check out! This does include my clearance section. It does not include custom orders or prior sales!

Positive Thought!

Do you ever find that you are mired down with negative thoughts? Recently, I've realized that this part of my character has changed over the years. I used to be such a positive thinker and optimist. Now, I find that I spend much of my day thinking negatively, which in turns leads to complaining about things, people, events, etc. I have always been very introspective and realize that this change in my character has been influenced by jobs, life experiences, contact with other persons, and mostly, what I choose to focus on.

Now, I'd like to be clear and say that if I am complaining about something, I usually am also taking action to resolve the complaint. For example, if I find a need; I try my best to fill that need. That has led to a large amount of volunteerism, on my part. I find that I really enjoy volunteering and know that I am helping to resolve a complaint or fill a need. That, indeed, is a positive action!

However, I really would like to become more positive in my thoughts. I know I don't want to become a "polly-anna" type but just see the world with a more positive attitude. I know this will take a conscience effort to accomplish, but I am willing to try! So, the other day at dinner, my entire family decided to make a pact to become more positive thinkers!

I have posted a "Be Positive" sign on our refrigerator and discussed all this with my husband and children. We will all make a concentrated effort to not complain. We are blessed in our lives and have many, many things to be thankful for. We know that. Our negativity comes mostly from impatience with the world and how it works, these days. It is sometimes hard to keep your chin up when you are feeling like "nice guys finish last" or you contribute your time to an event only to find your work was "undone" by someone else. But, I think we are committed to this new way of thinking and will definitely make an effort to recognize someone or something that is nice, instead of nasty!

There are many positive quotes available on the internet today! I plan to regularly view these and post some here and on my refrigerator to remind my family to BE POSITIVE!

Here is a quote I found that is particularly helpful to our start on this journey;

"If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”
- Dr Wayne Dyer
