Where inspiration comes from.......for my newest piece of jewelry!

My inspiration came from the lava rock beach you see above it! This beach is on the island of Maui and is part of the Keane Peninsula that you can view from the famous Hana Highway or Highway to Heaven, as it is called! The lava rock is fasinating, black as coal and striking against the crashing white waves.

So, in this piece I used white shell beads, black lava beads, and black ceramic coin shaped beads to frame a pendant of a resin encased shell. All of this comes together with a bamboo shaped toggle clasp of pewter. Bamboo grows naturally in the rainforest on Maui and can also be viewed on the Hana Highway.
